Fall 2008 Shoe Trends are Here!

Looks like we'll have a lot of the same trends we had last year as ankle-tie platform heels, masculine military style boots, slouchy boots, and metallic all make an appearance for what can only be called, Round Two. Chunky heels are also seen often as well as boots with those gorgeous spiky stiletto heels. There's even an uber-bright pair of wellies that makes a showing.

I quite like this striking pair by Aquatalia.

These too, when I want to go funky casual.

Summer Shoe Care with Style

The air has turned warm, the sun is shining and you and your feet are dying to break out your sandals and jeweled thong shoes. Whether you are wearing this year's must-have gladiator style sandal, some simple strappies or metallic flops you will want to remember that these shoes need love and care too.

Bags with Style has got you covered. Not only should you be keeping the leather on your shoes polished and shiny but you should also keep them out of sunlight. It darkens any leather and promotes wear and tear. Using a Bags with Style Shoe Bag will not only keep the dust off your shoes in between wear but it will keep them looking their best, unscuffed and out of the sunlight. If a Shoe Bag is not your thing consider the super cute luggage tags to place on the outside of the shoe box. Shoes will stay clean, neat and are easily identified.

However you choose to care for your spring and summer shoes remember that keeping your feet comfortable and looking pretty is one of the best ways to get through the days.

Ready, Set, Go!

Shoes. They are not just for looks all the time. The primary purpose of any shoe is to protect your feet from injury. Having a shoe that fits properly is the first step in keeping those footsies happy. I know, I was hoping it involved peep toes and cute accents too. This rule is never more important than when you are running or walking in a marathon. Here your shoes are truly your key to happiness. Since it is the season for marathon’s it seems like a good idea to cover some ground rules on how your kicks should fit.

When fitting your foot for a marathon it is important to remember that your feel swell. You probably want to go up a half size to prevent crowding your feet. Looks do not matter here. In the race to find your perfect marathon sneakers, it is all about the fit in the toes as well as the heels. No slippage should occur when you step. A good fit will not only feel comfortable but also reduce blisters and other skin irritations.

Hitting up a running shoe store is probably your best bet when searching for these shoes. The sales people at these places do nothing but size and look at feet all day, they know what they are talking about. Trust them. They will watch you walk and run. If you pronate to the left, right, or walk unevenly they know what to do. The sneakers they will outfit you in will be the best fit for your foot. For example, if you do pronate, a wider heeled shoe will work best to balance you out and keep your feet and ankles from undue injury. Then, make sure the shoes are not only comfortable when standing still but also when walking or running. You will be training in these shoes a lot and need them to hold up.

Finally, enjoy them! You are about to embark on a journey that is the marathon you will need good fitting shoes and a good attitude. When it is all over you can store those tired, muddy kicks in one of our shoe bags. The separate compartments will help keep them clean.

Shoe Care- 1,2,3

It may seem tiresome to spend time polishing your shoes especially if you have a mountain of them all sitting prettily in your closet. However, routine and regular shoe maintenance is important if you want to keep your kicks looking fabulous for longer. Here are some excellent tips for maintaining those stilettos, moccasins and more-

1. Polishing your shoes with wax keeps them looking not just fresh but removes scuff marks and adds shine. Using a cream or paste polish is best over the liquid version as liquid tends to dry out and crack those precious pumps. Remember to always remove laces on any shoes when polishing them as well.

2. Flannel lined shoes bags like the beauties from Bags with Style are not just a great way to tote around an extra pair of shoes. The separate compartments in Bags with Style shoe bags protect your shoes from each other as well as the dust and other elements lurking in your closet or shoe tree.

3. Patent leather is a hot right now in everything fashion, including the fashion on your feet. Caring for it is more than just slapping on a coat of petroleum jelly too. A mild soap and wet cloth are all you need to do the trick!

*Remember we are in the final weeks of receiving a free luggage handle wrap or luggage tag with your Bags with Style order!

Organizing Your Shoe World

Help! My closet is a jumbled mess of shoes! They are starting to all look the same and my sandals are getting crushed by my boots! How do I fix this fast and efficiently?

Does this sound like your closet? I know it sounds like mine. Most of the time my shoes are neatly lined up in the bags or boxes they came in or layed out side by side in pairs. If I keep the seasons straight all is right with the world. Occasionally, life gets the best of me and my closet floor becomes a messy pile of shoes. I end up crawling around looking for lost mates and realizing my dust-covered shoes are marking up my closet walls and the other shoes. It is a veritable nightmare! I feel overwhelmed and think, “Should I even bother cleaning it all up? Is it a total waste of time?”

The answer is yes and no. Yes, you should clean it up and no, it is not a waste of time. The reason is simple too. Your shoes protect your feet. You need to protect your shoes. If not, they become dusty, marked up and ruined. They mark the walls and floors of your closet and other shoes. They lose their luster and beauty. Shoes crave organization and care in order to last and here is how to do it.

1. First, put all your shoes in one place. Look them over and toss any that are beyond repair or that you simply will never wear due to an error in fashion judgment or ones that are no longer comfortable or wearable.

2. Find the mates and match them up. Then, sort your shoes into groups- Casual, Dressy, according to seasons, etc. Whatever makes sense to you! Look over these groupings. Do you notice any duplicate styles? Did you find more that are no longer appealing? If so, donate or toss those too.

3. Now it is time to get organized. First, store the out of season and special occasion shoes in boxes or bags. Storage bags that are flannel lined are the best type to store your treasured shoes in, especially the type with individual shoe compartments. Only shoe bags from Bags with Style possess both these attributes. Take the shoes you currently wear the most and store them out in the open in your closet where you can easily see them and reach them. If you keep them in boxes make sure they are labeled with pictures or tags as well. Labeling them with a photo or ID tag, like these cute ones (pictured below) from Bags with Style, is a great way to always having the right shoe fast.

4. Stand back and see the beauty that is now your shoe shelf or whatever special space in your closet you have reserved for your shoes. Remember, shoes protect your feet so they need to be protected as well. Storing your off-season shoes in bags is ideal as it keeps them lovely longer.
